I worked for 3 years as full time 8th grade math teacher and was 2017 teacher of the year for Lemon Grove Academy. I've been working in education for 9 years total (tutoring, teaching assistant, teacher). During that time I spent 5 years working in 5th - 8th grade focusing on math. I spent a trimester studying in Spain taking classes exclusively in Spanish. I have tutored in all subjects through 10th grade, but specialize in math and Spanish.
I love teaching and am taking a break to stay home with my son. While I decided not to continue teaching full time, I want to continue working with students. I have always worked with struggling students and am proud of the fact that I can find a way to explain things in a simple, straight -forward way that helps students have an "aha" moment. One of the classes I taught was intervention math for the lowest achieving students at my school. I learned a multitude of strategies to help these students access grade-level material and prepare them for high school. I have high expectations for students because I know I can help them achieve. No one is "bad at math" or "can't write/spell", some students simply need a little more help than others. Everyone can find success!
