My name is Catie and I have a bachelors in psychology and philosophy from a small university in Ohio. Upon graduating, I promptly moved to Madrid, Spain where I taught music and English in a middle school/high school.
While I was teaching in the school, I tutored over 30 students between the ages of 2 and 35 in the two years that I was living there. Following Madrid, I moved to Mallorca, Spain to teach English in a half public/half private elementary school for one year. Similarly to Madrid, I had many private students ranging from toddlers to adults.
Upon returning to the U.S., I began working in a small, midwestern preschool in Ohio before moving to Los Angeles to teach for two years in a private, Reggio-inspired preschool.
I am a unique tutor because I use my background in psychology to personally connect with each student to optimize his or her learning experience. I feel that a student's learning style, personal interests, hobbies, passions and aspirations are essential in motivation and growth and simply to make learning fun. This is also why I believe music is a great tool for learning and I enjoy using a student's favorite songs to make a lesson go "beyond the books."
I use the same methodology whether I am teaching ESL or psychology to adults, or social/emotional, language development to children under 5 years-old. My diverse professional experience makes me a very versatile tutor and I am open to any personalized request you might have. Just feel free to ask!
In conclusion, I want all my lessons to be more casual and enjoyable than a traditional class. I believe the most important aspect is that language is developed naturally through genuine connection, confidence building and real-world application.
If you feel like I am the right match for you, I would love to get to know you and would be honored to be your tutor!
