I've always loved math and helping others boost their math skills. I have tutored pre-calculus and calculus in my college's math lab, volunteered as a private math tutor, and worked as a college algebra instructor. Students praise my tireless patience. I'm never judgmental when students struggle with even the most basic math problems. I encourage them to ask questions until they fully understand the material. I practice the Socratic method of tutoring. I don't give students the answers; I ask them probing questions to gauge their level of understanding and elicit the correct answers from them. When they're wrong, I ask students why they're wrong. This makes them independent thinkers and boosts their confidence.
Preparing for timed, standardized tests requires a different skill set. I teach students to use mental math, logic, and common sense to improve their time management, which leads to higher scores. I do not view tutoring as a job. It is my passion and my opportunity to give back to others. The biggest reward for me is seeing a student reach that "a-ha" moment. I would consider it a privilege to help you achieve similar results.
