I speak: English and Spanish
I am passionate about math and science! I also have fun with improvisational theater which helps me try to keep tutoring sessions new and allows me to adapt in the case that my student is not understanding the topics we focus on. Most importantly, I try to keep our sessions fun and on task.
My first experience in tutoring started in my high school career when I started teaching math as an 11th grader to staff workers in my high school. I would teach 7th and 8th grade math to these staff workers on the weekend on a volunteer program that I spent 2 years on. I helped 4 faculty members, which were between the ages of 35-50 at the time, graduate with a Colombian high school diploma. After that experience, I became proud of my tutoring skills because I was able to see the results of my commitment when I helped change several of these four faculty's members life. The challenge that I was confronted with in that experience was being able to find different methods of teaching algebra to several people that had been unable to comprehend the concept for decades. I was forced to persist and constantly find different avenues in order to not only have them begin to learn, but also find their own enthusiasm in learning algebra.
Although that was in high school, I kept those traits with me throughout my college career that has helped me reach the goals that I have wanted at Emory University. During my time in college, I continued to pursue .a greater understanding of Math and Physics, which exposed me to many opportunities to informally tutor other friends of mine that struggle with classes I excelled in.
As I enter my senior year in my college career, I have a renewed interest in wanting to, once more, help other interested minds further in subjects they may have trouble in, yet want to excel. I look forward to working with you and I hope we can both reach a point that we can agree is success!
