I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, with minors in French and Cinema Studies. In college and afterwards, I realized that no matter what subject you're studying, clear and precise language is one of the most important aspects of any good work. My time learning French also gave me a new appreciation of the intricacies of my own native language, and made me determined to continue improving my use of English. My goal when teaching and tutoring is always to help students learn to love the language as much as I do.
I have one year's experience teaching English as a second language in Vietnam, and I have also taught rowing and camping skills for eight summers at a summer camp near my hometown in Maine. In Vietnam, teaching English to non-native speakers, I gained an even greater appreciation for the complexities of the language, and I learned a lot of activities and other ways to make learning those complexities fun and engaging. I also learned how fulfilling it is to see students progress, and become more confident, creative, and engaged as a result. And of course, I'm still learning myself, so I welcome any resources and suggestions from students or parents.
