My least favorite book in all my years in school was Frederick Douglass’ autobiography. Douglass is no doubt a hero of American culture, as a leader in the abolitionist movement and more. His story is absolutely incredible and one that makes you feel some guilt for any time you have ever complained in life. That said, his book was so boring that I fell asleep every time I tried reading it. I struggled reading any book in high school. I felt like I was broken somehow, unable to read the same way as my peers. I know now that I could have gotten help, but I wish that I could have worked with an English tutor to help me in the one subject that I struggled in most.
