After receiving my Business Degree from Rice University on a Navy ROTC scholarship, I served the next 5 years as a Commissioned Officer in various capacities afloat and ashore while touring much of the world in the process. I transfered that experience to the private sector where I continued to train, motivate and supervise individuals, first in a business setting and then 23 years in education. During the latter period, I served as Department Chairperson for Social Studies and then Physical Education as well as coaching both girls and boys basketball, volleyball and track before being appointed Athletic Director.
My formal education coupled with my work history allows me to bring a wide array of real world experiences to the learning environment in an effort to help students connect to the material in a more personal way thus enhancing the learning experience. I am a true believer that a diploma or degree may be the goal but learning is truly a lifelong process, as is teaching for some of us.
