My name is Flo M. and I live in the beautiful Western Carolina mountain village of Bat Cave, NC with my husband and two dogs Holly & GG. where we moved from San Francisco, CA ten years ago. It is my pleasure to help you with your writing. My qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Humanities, a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing, and the completion of a one-year Professional Sequence in Editing Certificate program from U.C. Berkeley Extension. This is a comprehensive program that trains students to become editors. I have been an online college writing tutor for the past nine years. My career includes teaching English Composition at The College of Alameda, teaching adult creative writing workshops, and working as a librarian at The University of California Berkeley. I also am fully competent in the use of online whiteboard technology. My online tutoring includes guiding students in writing their essays, preparing nursing students for the English portion of the TEAS test, composing college application letters, resumes and cover letters. I am a trained copyeditor with a working knowledge of APA and MLA formatting. I love working with students to help them reach their educational goals. I am particularly gratified by working with adult students who work full time and have returned to college to pursue a degree after a long absence, and students who are pursuing their GED certificates.
I am patient and thorough in my explanations. My students tell me they appreciate my encouraging demeanor. I will work one-to-one with students or can communicate online. My strengths include working with students who are writing academic papers of the following types: personal memoir, argumentative, process, compare/contrast, cause and effect, literary analysis, and research papers. I will not write papers for students, rather I will teach them how to structure their essays for good organization using prewriting strategies, and proper essay form that includes a strong introduction with thesis statement, effective body paragraphs with strong topic sentences that support the thesis, and a conclusion that restates the thesis, summarizes the main points , and brings the essay to a satisfactory conclusion. Once students understand the process and structure, they will be able to follow the same format to construct well-written essays on their own using the skills they have learned. I can also help with grammar and sentence structure, word choices, and APA, and MLA formatting.
I look forward to working with you.
