Hi, my name is Cindy. I am a freelance writer in multiple genres with eight books and numerous stories and articles to my publishing credit. Various educational and vocational experiences have contributed to a comprehensive knowledge base. I am the author of two published novels, as well as seven nonfiction dog-breed books. My other writing credits include a five-volume educational video set on the U.S. Presidents, an educational video on Washington, DC, and numerous print and online magazines and websites.I am a former member of the American Society of Authors and Journalists, the Women's National Book Association, and a current member of the Dog Writers Association of America.
I spent seven years as an adjunct tutor at the U.S. Naval Academy's Writing Center, where future naval officers learn that excellent writing skills, both academic and professional, are crucial to success. Many of my former USNA students now in the Fleet continue to contact me to assist with their professional written work. I provide writing tutelage to secondary-school students for college application essays, written assignments of all lengths for students of all levels, and interview preparation. I continue the privilege of working at USNA as a tour guide where I can tell captive audiences about this superior educational institution.
A firm believer that higher education need not equate to vocational training, I hold a B.A. in Russian Language and Literature from The George Washington University in Washington, DC, and optimized my lifelong Spanish language study with two summers of total-immersion study at Middlebury College Language Schools in Middlebury, Vermont. I attended the Sheffield School of Aeronautics in Miami, FL and obtained FAA licensure as an aircraft dispatcher. I subsequently dispatched jet aircraft for Midwest Express Airlines in Milwaukee and Federal Express (FedEx) in Memphis. I also spent four years as a verbatim court reporter before becoming a freelance writer.
A typical tutoring session may involve reviewing a student's specific writing assignment, providing feedback and assistance, and assigning a revision for further review. SAT preparation involves reviewing practice essays in student-provided SAT-preparation books, and revising for speed, clarity, accuracy. Tutoring sessions may be accomplished online or in person at a mutually convenient public location.
