I will be certified with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology as a Mental Performance Consultant this summer. I specialize in helping you to understand learning through mastery, effective motivation, building confidence, how to properly structure goals, and develop mental skills to deliver your best performance! These skills learned in sport translate into academic performance settings and anything that demands your best (music, dance, drama, chess, speech, etc.).
I use my formal education and experience in mental performance during my 17 years as a coach to help our athletes train and compete at their best. This created 26 first team All Americans, 12conference champions, NCAA national runner up, USA Track and Field junior national champion, 12 school records, and a Norwegian national record.
I have recently moved to Boston to Start a position as a track and field coach at Boston University.
I have a bachelors degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University (private liberal arts university) with a dual major of psychology and exercise science. I graduated from Boston College earning a master's degree in counseling psychology. After graduation, I moved back to the midwest to begin a Ph.D. program studying educational leadership and sport psychology at the University of Missouri (Mizzou).
I began coaching with the track and field team in 2002 becoming a full time coach and eventually associate head coach of the program. While this was a fun and fulfilling experience (including travel all over the country and world!) it became increasingly difficult to balance the time consuming demands of a Division I major conference university coach and continue toward my Ph.D. After 48 credit hours I had to put my coursework on hold as I was living my dream as a track and field coach.
I completed all of the coursework (15 hours) offered in sport psychology by one of the strongest sport psychology programs in the country. This education provides me an excellent network of professionals in mental performance as well as an incredible knowledge base as I work with individuals and teams!
I bring a practical nature and personal approach to my work by helping individuals and organizations to understand themselves and therefore begin practice in becoming their best self! I understand that striving to be your best requires sacrifice, resilience, big goals, effort, and the right kind of support.
