About Maura

I earned a Bachelor's degree in English (with Honors) from the University of South Florida. Prior to and during my time as a student, I worked as a conversational partner and English tutor to students middle grade through adult for whom English was not a native language. I specialize in English Language Arts, assisting learners for whom English is not their native language, and literary studies. I have a broad understanding of English Language Arts (comprised of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing) and literatures in English and English translation. In addition to English, I also have several years of university-level and personal experience with the Japanese language (I have tutored Japanese speakers on English and English speakers on Japanese).

I believe in getting to know my learners' personal goals and creating motivational lessons to help achieve them. I strive to convey my love of verbal and written language to my students through enthusiastic collaboration. However, mutual trust and respect is necessary and I want my students to know it's okay to not succeed at first. That's why you have me to help you expanding your vocabulary, gain a stronger understanding of grammar, and improve your reading and writing skills. First and foremost, I am your biggest supporter.
