Hi! I've been working with young people for over 20 years, 15 as an elementary school substitute teacher. I love working with kids and coming up with different ways to look at problems, whether it's math or language arts. A lot of the time it's a matter of learning how to deal with fear that can develop from having trouble or just hearing about how difficult something is. It's an ongoing process for all of us, and I've found if you can handle being nervous or scared in one area of life, like academics, you can handle it better in other areas, too.
I've been helping students understand academics most of my life, from helping kids learn to read in first grade to helping friends in math in high school and college.
I was a radio personality for many years, including at Radio Disney, where I was the first night time host and off-air in charge of wrangling our kid talent. In radio, you learn to boil down concepts to be able to explain them quickly, in bite-sized chunks, which I've found helps when working with kids, too.
I currently direct voice-over auditions, which also requires quickly communicating concepts, and voice act as well.
