About Steven

Ever since I started teaching, at the high school level, I have been passionate in my commitment to maximizing distinct student success, stirring students’ curiosity and encouraging a sense of self-confidence in all my students. I have dedicated my life to each of these quests, as my enclosed resume will demonstrate.

This is why I was eager to see the opportunity for English instructors in your prestigious academic institution. Your school’s well-earned very positive reputation for celebrating diversity, achieving academic excellence and using technology as a learning tool is unique and has made your institution a leading edge school. It would be an honor to teach your students and to serve with high educational standards and to provide students with distinct opportunities for personal growth.

I completed my B.A. in Organizational Management of Human Resources degree at Bethel College, in Mishawaka, Indiana. I have a multi-disciplinary Master’s Degree in Literature and writing at Indiana University. I am currently a doctoral candidate and completing my dissertation for my PhD. in international education.

I am also a published author with six novels and my personal published memoirs. As a result of my travels to 37 countries and my work in in education in 12 nations, the driving force of my life has always been to tell the world around me what I have seen and how it impacts our lives today, in our global society.

As a result of my international experience, I have a very good understanding of the importance of cultural diversity and how to teach students from international backgrounds. For more than 25 years, I have provided effective classroom management, creative lesson plans, and comprehensive student evaluations with highly praised instructional delivery. As an enthusiastic volunteer, I founded and grew the school’s international programs that prepare international students for study in American universities.

While in France for six years, I was able to earn a Certificate of Fluency in the French Language at Cavilam Institute of the French Language in Vichy, France. I have worked a number of years in various countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America, and I have visited or lived in 37 countries. I have worked in literacy, English language acquisition and Cultural Research in such countries as Turkey, France, Senegal, and Gambia, West Africa. I have also worked as a freelance journalist in countries such as Iraq, Turkey, Israel, Pakistan, Palestine, and Bangladesh.

While residing in Senegal, West Africa for three years, I established a School by Correspondence for African students in the African countries of The Gambia and Senegal West Africa. I founded a Cultural Center for refugees in France, where I lived for six years. Because of my experience, today I can fluently speak French and am quite good at Turkish.

Before returning to reside in the United States in 1995, I worked as an instructor of English and Business skills for four years at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey. I was responsible for the supervision of five tourism instructors, and supervised syllabus development, course outlines, and the development of pertinent materials for Tourism and Business. I also assisted in the development of a Masters of Business Administration and Public Presentation skills course.
I participated in the Development of a specialized course in Business translation; I instructed students who were seeking a diploma in Translation and Linguistics. I also developed materials and taught a specialized academic writing course to deepen students’ abilities in communication for business and writing purposes. I was involved in several World Bank courses, which were offered at the University as well.

I have spent over five years, as a teacher and a high school principal in four different schools in China. As head principal of Shaoxing No.1 High School International Department. I taught courses in Oral English Presentation, Academic writing in English for business, creative writing and American culture, beginner's French language and American history.

I have also been very impressed with my international students in China. My time in China has been one of the best experiences and teaching opportunities of my life and career in teaching and in academic management in my full-time position as international high-school head principal. I also have a Ph.D. in International Education from Northcentral University.
