Lexington has a few weird laws on the books that make it a fairly unique and quirky place to be. For example, it is illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your back pocket. The question you might ask yourself is why one would ever put an ice cream cone in your pocket, let alone the back one. It seems like a really bad place to leave a melting treat. The reasoning might surprise you, but it also highlights just how old and obsolete the law is. Horses are attracted to sweets and love ice cream. Back in the day, it was an old trick to put an ice cream cone in your back pocket and then walk in front of a horse. The horse sees the ice cream and starts to follow. When it follows you all the way home, the cops have no recourse because you technically never stole the horse.

One law still on the books stipulates that you may not dye a duck blue and offer it for sale unless more than six are for sale at once. I would hate to be the guy with five blue ducks. Just guessing, the duck law probably has to do with University of Kentucky because their color is blue. In the movie Billy Madison, Billy draws a blue duck for his first grade class. He says that he had never seen a blue duck before and just wanted to see what it looked like. It’s quacktastic. He probably did not ever see one because it is illegal to dye them blue in certain places.
