I never learned to surf because it seemed like something that was too hard for me. When I was younger, I wanted nothing more than to skateboard with my neighbors because they were the coolest, but I did not know what I was doing. I had my parents buy me the cheapest, lamest skateboard and took to the streets to learn to balance. I fell over and over again. One day, I decided to brave skating with the guys and got brave enough to attempt a jump off their ramp. My skateboard slipped out from under my feet and shot back into the storm drain. I was terrified that I would get in trouble for losing my board, but my friend lifted the manhole cover and hopped down to get it back. He retrieved the board, but I was too scared to ever skate again.
