Are empty stats really a thing? If you are an Oklahoma City Thunder fan, you probably have mixed feelings about Russell Westbrook. As the star of Oklahoma City professional basketball since the team moved to Oklahoma City in 2008, Westbrook has done everything outside of winning a championship. In fact, he was even the league’s MVP in the 2016-17 season. It was the first season where he was in charge of the team, as he had previously played alongside Kevin Durant, who had been there longer and challenged LeBron James for best player in the entire league. Westbrook responded to critics that said he would fail without Durant by putting the team on his back. He averaged a triple double, which is getting double digits in three statistical categories. He is the only player to achieve such a feat and he did it again the year after as well.
What does this all mean? It is hard to say. In the end, Westbrook’s teams were not able to win championships.
