My process is very simple and highly effective. I start by getting to know our students on a personal level. What are their likes and dislikes? What are their strengths? Where can they improve? What are their goals? This information will play a key role in the tutoring process. Once I have an idea of what our students know and don’t know, we begin the learning process together. Here, the key is for the student to take ownership over his or her own education. In my experience, I;ve found that in order to foster critical-thinking and independence, the tutor’s role should be as a facilitator of learning. It’s important that my students reach their own conclusions based on their own judgement.
This process is proven to work. On average, my students earn one full-letter-grade better in their classes targeted and an average of 150 points better on their standardized test scores.
