I have been an educator for almost 20 years, working in public schools as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, intervention specialist and literacy coach. I've worked with students from pre-k through high school, and currently work as an Instructor of Education for the University of Virginia (UVA), providing professional development to teachers and educational leaders. In addition to my work with UVA, I provide private tutoring/intervention in the area of reading and literacy to students of all ages. My tutoring/intervention is based on assessment so I am able to diagnose specific deficits, then target these needs with evidence-based instructional practices. Every student is unique in their experiences and needs, therefore, I believe in crafting lesson plans that are unique to each student (rather than a "one size fits all" program). As the mother of two children, I am sensitive to students' emotional and motivational needs; I believe in a positive approach to instruction that holds students accountable for putting forth their best effort. I am fully invested in each of my tutoring/intervention students and their success!
