I am a second-year Doctor of Philosophy student in Linguistics at George Mason University. I hold a Bachelor's degree with highest distinction in Linguistics and French from the University of Virginia, and study other foreign languages as well (I am fluent in Romanian, highly proficient in French and Italian, intermediate in German, and am also studying Afrikaans and Mopan Maya). I also write poetry and fiction, and have had seven books published. I plan to pursue an academic career integrating historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, and linguistic anthropology. I have won numerous foreign language, academic, and teaching awards, and have experience working with all age groups, from four-year-olds through adults. I believe in learning by making personal connections to the material, becoming actively engaged with the subject, and having fun while learning!
