About Fnu

Learning is a process that happens through a filter--a filter of perception-- which is different for everyone and is influenced by the outside world. As a young learner, I was only given the option to see the world through a limited perspective, and I was assessed on the right answers, not if I understood the topic. One can compare me to the students Mr. Feynman talked about in “Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!” who memorized everything yet the words were not translated into meaningful words. It all changed when I left my home country and was given the opportunity to see there are other ways to learn that are more effective. Math can be like that to young learners thus as a teacher I want to give the students new ways to conceptualize math in their own way.
My teaching philosophy focuses on student’s cognition, developing the critical thinking necessary to understand the hidden yet wonderful meaning behind the numbers we solve. Students being able to understand their cognitive thinking and how their thought process works will let them build a strong mathematical base. To ensure that I will always start a topic with a mystery question.A question which will be like a puzzle, and to solve that puzzle students will learn and practice various mathematical concepts. This will make sure learning and understanding mathematics isn't restricted within the classroom and lectures.
As an educator it will be my responsibility to make sure students are given equal opportunity to learn and understand. I will do that by creating lesson plans, assessments, and worksheets. I will also use probing questions to promote the thoughts that can guide them to an unconflicted conclusion. I will also be there to answer individual questions with keeping class time in mind. I also believe that mathematics is about discovering new ways to represent the world using new theories and ways that are still in construction. This is why I believe all student ideas/questions no matter how “dumb” or “wrong” should be welcomed and researched if not in class then outside class.
We humans are curious beings driven by our desire and surrounded by problems. It is through the presence of a problem and our desire and curiosity to find a solution that has led us to the present world. Mathematics is considered the language of the universe because of many reasons, one being that we can use it to describe many fundamental phenomena that we see in our daily life and learn much more to answer the questions our curious minds ask. Thus, I believe mathematics should not be taught for the concepts but the concepts should be learned as a next step to solving a problem.
