About Karon

Thank your for taking a few moments to review my cover letter. I've spent a few years owning and operating a construction rental business, but I feel it's time for me to continue a career I started long ago, the one that I love.
I graduated with a 3.97 GPA in literature from Dallas Baptist University, receiving numerous awards and scholarships from both the University and English Department in the early 1990's. As a part of my degree, I took numerous creative writing and technical writing classes. My experiences were enhanced by an opportunity to open and direct a Writing Center at Dallas Baptist University shortly after graduating with my BA in Literature. My responsibilities with the Center included developing tutoring programs and resources for writing scenarios in all academic fields. The center employed several tutors who used my programs/resources to assist fellow students with academic writing assignments. While working on my bachelor's degree, I also had the opportunity to teach developmental writing class at the DCCCD, as well.
After graduation, I was fortunate in that I immediately secured a job as an English teacher at Palmer ISD, teaching sophomore English and several combination classes of Advanced Placement English, freshmen and sophomores in one class and juniors and seniors in another. As well, I sponosored Student Council and Cheerleading, worked with UIL competition, and worked with TAAS remediation.
After a few years of teaching, my husband who had congential heart disease became very ill. During that time, I spent many years managing his company and helping him with his health problems; however, I felt certain I would return to education some day. Now is that time. I consider myself an educator and love working with students. My greatest accomplishment wasn't Walmart Teacher of the year or any other accolade that I received. My greatest accomplishment was the year one of my non-native English speaking students finally passed the TAAS (state proficiency exam required to graduate) wriring and reading sections of the exit exam on his final attempt and after many unsuccessful tries. He became the first male to graduate from high school and did so in time to walk with his class at graduation. He is currently a business owner and to this day thanks me for tutoring him and supporting him along the way. Those are the experiences that mean the most.
