I am a graduate student at Houston Baptist University, pursuing my Master of Arts in Biblical Languages. I also work with our Student Success Center as a tutor (for Algebra & Trigonometry) and our College of Science and Mathematics as a tutor and a lab assistant/TA.
I love math, especially Algebra. The more I study it, the more I realize that it is a good subject for those who wish to discipline their minds, as well as those who want to learn how to solve problems (whether on paper or in real life). But I also enjoy TUTORING math (which is different from the pure study of the subject), especially when I see those whom I tutor finally understand concepts that had confused them and find out that math isn't so bad after all!
I am able to tutor in Elementary and Junior High math, as well as High School & College courses in Algebra and Trigonometry. I've taken five Algebra Courses - a year of pre-algebra in 8th grade; 3 years in high school - algebra 1, algebra 2, and college algebra; and a semester of college algebra at HBU. I received a reward for "Excellence in College Algebra" in High School and I was selected by my College Algebra professor to help tutor students in preparations for finals. I aced College Trigonometry, leading study sessions with my fellow classmates in preparation for exams.
Just a side note: I also enjoy music (though I do not tutor for it). I was a long-time school choir member (6.5 years - 1 in Junior High, 4 in High School, and 1.5 at University), as well as a two-time TMEA Men's Choir Member (Tenor I, 2012 & 2013). I also play the piano & I used to perform my own songs and accompany my classmates on the piano. I have yet to study the relations between music and math, but I hope to do so one day. But, connection or no connection, I encourage all of you artistic ones not to despair! You too can enjoy math!
I look forward to tutoring you,
Kyle J. S.
