Hi there! I’m Elicia! I graduated with a BS in Psychology and a minor in Clinical Psychology at the University of Texas at Arlington. During my undergraduate years, I had the opportunity to work as a college algebra S.I. ("S.I." meaning "student instructor") and lead my own S.I. sessions. I tutored students in Algebra II while also assisted in preparation for exams, helped with coursework, curriculum, and understanding of the concepts. During those four years, I’ve learned to appreciate students as individuals and tailor resources for individual needs. The feeling of being able to successfully teach a student a concept where students can retain and master the information was so incredibly rewarding, led me to further pursue a career in education. After graduating with my bachelor’s degree, I ended up becoming a STEM teacher teaching STEM to kids of all ages.
During my years of teaching, inquiry-based education quickly became my preferred method of teaching because it allows students to feel comfortable asking questions, thereby creating a conducive learning environment. In addition to fostering an inquiry-based learning environment, I also use other tools such as Google collaboration applications, videos, and other visual aids to improve student comprehension. I also love making my lessons fun and relatable. I always try to incorporate real life examples and references into each lesson that I teach to allow the student to become more involved in the lessons and enhance the student engagement in the learning process.
Some of my greatest strengths are that I’m very energetic, patient, and adaptable. I lean on these qualities heavily while I’m teaching. I believe my energy keeps students engaged and motivated with the material, and my patience allows students to move at their own learning pace comfortably. My adaptability allows me to adjust or adapt my methods and approaches to meet the individual needs of each student.
My main area of expertise is tutoring in mathematics, physics, and psychology. Specifically, I’ve tutored high school students in geometry, algebra, and trigonometry with some experience tutoring physics. I also have many years of experience in tutoring Algebra II to college students. As stated previously, I hold a degree in psychology and a minor in clinical psychology, and with that I have a broad understanding of human behavior as well as skills to understand and interpret research findings concerning human behavior. So, I am able to help assist you and your understanding of many areas of psychology including cognitive, developmental, behavioral, personality, social and clinical psychology.
As a goal-oriented person with lots of patience, I'm confident I'll be able to enhance your academic skills and progress your knowledge and understanding in the required subjects with utmost care and concern for achieving your educational goals. I look forward to working with you!
