Tutoring is not a one-size-fits all process. Though every version of the ACT, or any other standardized test, is more or less the same on paper, different students require different test taking approaches and study techniques to reach their potential. Unlocking a student's personal best on a test requires dedication and consistent practice to be sure, but it is also immeasurably helpful to have a keen eye for what a test is truly asking for. That experienced eye towards the ins and outs of the test is at the heart of the service I provide my students.
We all learn in subtly different ways, and any method of instruction that does not take this into account will be limited in its effectiveness. The real key to mastering any standardized test is identifying what a student's areas of relative weakness are, and then targeting these areas in a comprehensive manner. I have seen the tremendous beneficial impact that targeted work can have in my students. Once a student has a handle on the parts of the test they are weakest on, they gain the confidence to anticipate and overcome the tricks and tropes in each test. By working through heytutor, I hope to bring the same proven techniques I developed in Boston to a broader audience than I could ever reach while working for another company or through word of mouth alone.
A bit about me - I have over six years of experience teaching a broad slate of tests and academic subjects. I began my career as a tutor by teaching part time for AP-biology and the SAT & ACT immediately after graduating from Williams College in 2011. Throughout law school, I continued working with an ever larger roster of tests and students. After earning my JD and successfully taking the Massachusetts Bar Examination, I chose to work as a full-time tutor and completed over 1100 hours of instruction in 2015-16. The unique demands and opportunities of working full-time as a tutor, rather than as a part-time hobby, have allowed me to hone my teaching techniques to an exceptional degree. This expertise has resulted in reliably dramatic score gains for my students and allowed me to post the best average score gains of any tutor at my former company for both the 2014 and 2015 academic years.
