I am an English writing instructor with over 20 years of experience, teaching a variety of levels. My education credentials include a Ph.D. and a B.A. in English, both of which I earned from the Unviersity of Texas at Austin.
Some of my specialties include:
•college application essays
•graduate school application essays
•standardized test preparation such as the SAT, ACT, GRE, TOEFL, and AP tests
•critical thinking skills
•writing skills
My experience includes:
•22 years teaching university level writing courses and staffing writing centers
•7 years teaching high school, including 10th, 11th, 12th grades and AP Language and Composition
•22 years tutoring students
In addition to tutoring, I am an instructor at St. Edward’s University where I teach courses such as Rhetoric and Composition, Literature, American Dilemmas (a course that mixes sociology, political science, economics and writing), and Capstone (a senior thesis course). At the University, I also run a series of writing workshops for the College Assistance Migrant Program, a program that serves first generation college students who come from families that do migrant work.
One of my specialties is helping high school students make the transition to college level writing. Because I taught high school English for seven years, I have a keen awareness of what high school students need to focus on to be ready to do college level work. At the high school where I taught, I was known for being a rigorous teacher with strong results— my students often earned the highest AP scores in the school.
I am committed to my students and truly care that they learn skills that they will be able to use throughout their academic careers and beyond.
