I have a BA in Economics and a Master's in Mathematics Education. I have taught high school, 2-year college, private 4-year and 4-year research university mathematics. I love teaching mathematics but get the greatest reward from the one-on-one work I do with my tutoring students. I began tutoring when I was in graduate school and have continued nonstop since then.
I have 25+ years of teaching college mathematics and college, K-12, and SAT/ACT math tutoring. I specialized in Middle school - AP Calculus. I have been grading the AP Calculus exam for over 20 years. I love to help students "own" the math not just rent it. I have developed many strategies to help master mathematics, prepare for test and build confidence in their math ability. I am aware that not all students will "love" math but I hope to help them see the beauty of math and respect it's importance.
I am a single mom to two boys (11 and 15). They have benefited from hearing me tutor students their entire lives. They often quote some of the corny things I use to help students understand the math. I am shocked because I never knew they were really paying attention to my sessions.
I tutor middle school math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-calculus, Algebra 3, AP Calculus, SAT math (and subject test), ACT math, Finite Math, College Algebra, and Business Calculus. In my 25+ years I have found that the most important part of tutoring is the develop a rapport with the students that will help build their confidence in their ability to be successful in mathematics. So many students second guess themselves and have never been taught strategies to check their work (what I refer to as "warm fuzzies" and "red flags"). I always say that my just as a tutor is to work myself out of a job! If you don't need me anymore, I have done my job!
I am available for online and in-person sessions. I look forward to working with you!
