I have taught and tutored both high school and college students, traditional and non-traditional, for the last 7 years. My area of expertise is in biology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and molecular biology. However, I have experience in teaching conservation, zoology and plant biology. I am well-versed in both online and in-person instruction.
Throughout my years as both a teacher and a tutor, I have learned not every student learns the same way. Nor do all students learn the same way I learn, and thus teach. Therefore, the first thing I do is assess a student's learning style with a comprehensive questionnaire and compare the results with my own. This allows me to make alterations in my tutoring styles to best meet the student's specific needs. I have found it rare for a student to be only one type of learner. For example, I am a kinesthetic learner and an audiovisual learner. Because of the wide variety of ways students learn, I use a variety of teaching methods to ensure that each student understands the material. I have several different teaching techniques I have found to work exceptionally well for students of all learning types. Some of my favorite teaching techniques include online lab simulations, video clips, drawing, color-coding, and labeling diagrams, and real-life applications when appropriate.
