About Michelle

I am a certified Childhood Education and Special Education Teacher in NY.

After spending a summer working at a residential school for children with multiple and severe disabilities, I realized I had a passion for teaching and I decided to go to graduate school at NYU to get a masters degree in Childhood Education and Special Education. At NYU, I student taught in many settings and graduated with honors. After spending some time as a classroom teacher in the Bronx, I realized the value of the work I can do in a small group or 1 to 1 setting and decided to start tutoring.

I specialized in teaching elementary students in math and reading as well as those who have learning or behavioral disabilities. This is my background and where most of my experience has been. If tutoring requires me to create lessons or materials I charge $50/hour. If there is no lesson planning involved and I am simply providing homework support or I am helping to edit an essay or plan a paper then I would charge $30/hour. There is one exception.

I am in the processes of being certified in the Orton-Gillingham Multisensory Approach to Teaching Literacy which has been proven successful with students of all ages that are dyslexic or that have trouble with phonics, writing, spelling, and mostly reading. This methodology takes the basic foundations of language and breaks them into a strict schedule of introductions based on frequency in our language. My Orton-Gillingham Tutoring is different from typical tutoring as it follows its own lesson format and curriculum and would be either separate from or in addition to helping with what a child is learning in their classroom. Because of the cost to me to be trained in this methodology and the price of the resources, I charge 65 $/hr for these lessons. Orton-Gillingham lessons are recommended to be no less than two times a week with the preference of being three or more. I offer package deals for these lessons were the third lesson of the week is only $20.

I am a recent hire at Gayhead Elementary Schooll in their 5th/6th special education language-based program and therefore can tutor only after school and on the weekends both online or in-person. Lessons can be provided in my residence or a public building.

I look forward to hearing from you and wish you luck!
