I am an English tutor because working one-on-one with students gives me the opportunity to manifest my passion for English in teaching. I am currently an English professor at St. John's University, and I find teaching individual students to be both fun and helpful to me. My simultaneous tutoring and teaching is beneficial towards my development as an instructor. My specialties as a tutor include editing writing assignments, preparing for standardized tests, and reading.
I have maintained an enthusiasm for reading and writing since I was a young child, and have continued to pursue this passion as an adult. In May of 2016, I graduated with my Master’s degree in English from SUNY Binghamton, in addition to a Bachelor’s degree in English. My education at Binghamton has provided me with experience in everything from literary analysis to creative poetry, and my rich background in English education serves me well as a tutor. I have been a PhD student at St. John's for over a year, and this has further improved me as a teacher and student.
Other than my educational background in English, I worked as an English tutor at Huntington Learning Center, an environment in which I enjoyed working with students on everything from grammar to preparation for standardized tests. I love witnessing the progress of individual students as a tutor, and my favorite feeling is seeing an expression of pride on a student's face when they finally understand a difficult topic. I additionally spent last year working in an elementary school as both an art assistant and as an English assistant in third grade classrooms. This has provided me with valuable experience with children of various ages and abilities, and taught me much about adjusting material to best assist a student.
I truly feel that working as an English tutor is currently the perfect occupation for me, and additionally provides me with valuable experience as I continue in my career of professorship.
