I graduated magna cum laude from Moravian College, majoring in math and political science. I then attended Lehigh University, where I earned my Master's in public policy. While securing my master’s degree, I worked with the United Way in researching best practices for programs aimed at helping older adults, as well as statistically evaluating performance data for programs receiving funding through the organization. I have also worked on a congressional campaign and assisted my alma mater’s Department of Institutional Research in appraising the college’s value relative to other liberal arts colleges across a variety of academic and financial metrics. I have five years of tutoring experience, with three as a writing tutor and two as a test prep and math tutor. I am also a highly proficient test-taker, having scored in the 99th percentile on the GRE. I have extensive experience working with kids, as I've tutored the SSAT, the SHSAT, the ISEE, and the HSPT, as well as middle and high school math (including Common Core).
Through these tutoring experiences, I have reached a level of comfort working with kids that doesn't come naturally to a lot of folks. Most students who seek out tutoring feel a lot of academic anxiety, and helping them build their skill set and their confidence can be challenging when they feel stressed or discouraged. While the needs of each student vary, I've learned that striking the right balance between discipline and warmth is crucial to effective tutoring, as students learn and retain information more easily when they are focused but don't feel rushed or panicked. I am also ready and able to help outline a study plan to help a student better prepare during the time between sessions, based on whatever needs or scheduling constraints he or she may have. I am always readily reachable, and I'm flexible in terms of scheduling sessions.
If you have you any questions or concerns, contact me and I'll get back to you ASAP. Thanks for considering me as a tutor, and I hope to hear from you!
