Education has changed my life and I sharing my experiences with others has been my main focus for the past six years. I would love for you to be a part of that. As a first-generation Guinean and Ivorian American, an immense part of my growth was through education and outreach. I’ve spent upward of six years devoted to women’s and children’s advocacy.
I plan to pursue a career in academia with respect to women’s issues in my native countries. With regards to my volunteer work, I’ve been heavily involved with volunteer organizations such as Big Brother Big Sister; Club Zoe, where I served as a mentor to disadvantaged adolescents from the Albany area; and High Water Women, where I teach financial literacy to classes with a minimum of 10-15 to mothers and elderly women from the five boroughs for the past two years. During my time at the University at Albany I participated in a string of cultural and community organizations ranging from Women in Academia, to the Queer Student Alliance, to the African Student Association.
I now work as the Education and Outreach Associate for the Student Conservation Association where I coordinate and implement environmentally conservative programs for the Girl Scouts of Greater New York and as a math tutor for Practice Makes Perfect. During my downtime, I volunteer part-time as an arts and welfare mentor for the Police Athletic League for at-risk-youth women and children of color.
My approach to being your tutor would include use of my background with tutoring and instructing both general and special needs children, at-risk youth, and adults.
