Hi there! My name is Evan, and I'm a writer based in NYC. I love teaching, and have worked as a private tutor for 3 years, teaching creative writing, expository writing, writing remediation, English and literature.
I believe that extra-curricular tutoring is nearly essential for most students in today's academic environment. Students are required to manage a great deal of material over a broad spectrum of topics and, unfortunately, in-school support is often insufficient to meet the task.
Part of the reason that I became a tutor is because tutors saved my life! I was not exactly a stellar high school student, despite the motivation and capacity to succeed. As it turns out, what I really needed was motivation, encouragement, and a little bit of attention. So I decided to pay it forward.
My teaching philosophy is that no single strategy works for every student. Everyone learns differently, and a very important part of my job as an educator is to work with each client to determine how best to help them. As such, I believe it is very important to develop a bespoke lesson-plan for each student that I work with.
I also have experience working with special-needs students in the areas of organization and executive function.
