Even though Excel is not the best option for data storage, data analytics, or creation of automated reporting and custom UIs, it's the go-to option chosen because it can be done in Excel relatively quickly. My ability to do all of these things in Excel has been a skill that has been called upon throughout my career.
Innovations in technology have created much better ways to do all these things. However, I guarantee that you will find that almost any business trying to do any of these things are using Excel (in some capacity) to do them. Knowing how to use Excel at a high level is an incredibly important and useful skill.
