I’m Anna B., a graduate of Cornell University with a B.S. in Biological Engineering and a double minor in Biomedical Engineering and Portuguese/Brazilian Studies. Currently, I am pursuing a M.S. in Technical Management from Johns Hopkins University. I have been a tutor for over six years helping students of all ages and levels (middle school, high school, and college).
Throughout my academic career, I have always had a strong passion for both the sciences and the arts. I began tutoring in high school in subjects, such as math, science, and writing by leading study groups for my fellow peers. I graduated salutatorian in high school and began my undergraduate career at Cornell in 2010. At Cornell, I was exposed to several high-level math and engineering courses ranging from biology to chemistry, to physics, to calculus to extensive lab work. Because I excelled in these subjects, I was asked to tutor other students privately in order to help raise their GPAs. Being trilingual in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, I have been able to reach a large population of students not only at Cornell, but also at neighboring schools that needed ESL tutors. I worked with students on subjects such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, physics, biology, chemistry, formal essay writing, and college prep.
Throughout my tutoring career, I have created and led study groups, workshops, as well as individual one-on-one tutoring sessions, where I prepped students for exams, provided homework help, and essay writing guidance. I prefer one-on-one tutoring, for this is how I can achieve the highest engagement level with my students. Additionally, I apply the theoretical math and science lectures to real world situations; this allows my students to better understand the practical applications of these subjects in their everyday lives. Moreover, I focus on using analytical reasoning, innovative thinking, and problem solving techniques. Utilizing these different approaches have been very effective and gives much more value to learning new topics.
