I am a NH certified middle and high school science teacher and hold an MS degree in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Education from Antioch University in Keene, NH. In 2006, I received a Certificate of Excellence for my Biology Content Knowledge on my biology teaching licensure exam from Educational Testing Service (ETS).
With almost 20 years of teaching experience, I am qualified to tutor students in grades K-12 as well as students at the undergraduate level. For the past 12 years, I have lived and worked with high school students at an independent college preparatory high school -- for several years as a science teacher and now as a dorm parent and private tutor. I have tutored students in AP Biology, AP Literature, and many (if not most) English, social science, and biological science courses offered at Proctor Academy in Andover, NH. I truly enjoy helping students refine their writing (in any subject). I believe that learning to write well is one of the best skills a student can develop for college and for life.
I also have proven success in working with students diagnosed with ADHD, ADD, dyslexia and other learning differences. I believe that all types of learners can succeed. Although I usually work with students on specific academic content, I can also provide students with organizational strategies that improve students' abilities to succeed. I have helped most of my students increase their grade averages by 20 percentage points.
In the last several years, I have been working with juniors and seniors with SAT/ACT preparation and the college application process. Applying for college can be overwhelming for parents and students alike and I have supported many families through this important, but often stressful, endeavor. Not only can I assist with customized SAT and ACT preparation, I can also help students with their college essays from the brainstorming to final draft stages. I approach getting into college with some of my own success under my belt. When I applied to undergraduate colleges, I was admitted into some of the most competitive universities in the country: University of California, Berkeley and University of Michigan.
