I have relentlessly pursued my own happiness through hard work, a focus on quality, and the development of a growth mindset. Through my adventures and the adversity I have faced, I have built resilience. Building confidence and resilience in students through coaching, repetitive practice, creative explanations, enthusiasm and empowerment in a safe environment where making mistakes is a part of learning is what I love about tutoring. Mastery and deep learning is always my goal when working with students.
I graduated from Alma College in mid-Michigan over a decade ago after living my dream as a college volleyball athlete. While working toward my degree, I served as an elementary Spanish teacher. After graduating, I taught for seven years before leaving the classroom completely, with the majority of my experience being in grades 3-5. I also coached volleyball at multiple levels and have been tutoring individual students for over 15 years.
Math is my favorite subject and it is the subject that I tutor, but I am willing to help with other subjects at the elementary-middle school levels by request.
Since leaving teaching, I have worked as a paralegal, as a veterinary assistant, in customer service, as a nanny, as a high school academic interventionist and as the director of an animal welfare nonprofit. With the move to virtual meetings and sessions, I have been tutoring virtually for the past year.
Besides loving and playing volleyball, I also spend the majority of my free time caring for my tribe of companion animals who are loved as if they were human children. Be forewarned: sometimes they absolutely make appearances in my tutoring sessions :)
