Hello students! I have an enthusiastic personality and my students have told me that I'm a little bit funny (I think they really mean that I'm extremely funny). I am passionate about working with young people to help them realize their true potential and work through challenges in school. I connect very well with young people and that makes it easier for successful teaching/tutoring and learning. I like to find out what skills and strategies would work for you in order to make the best use of out time and make you feel the most prepared and confident!
I have taught for almost 20 years in both middle and elementary school. My specialty subjects are English (or ELA), social studies/history, and math (up to Algebra I); however, I can help with science as well. I have also worked with students on organizational and study skills.
As a visual learner who sometimes struggled in school, myself, I have many tricks and tips to help with learning and to engage students to learn the way that best suits them. Lastly, I have worked with may students to prepare for the ISEE and the SSATs, and I also worked for SSAT for a few years writing test questions for them.
I taught 7th and 8th grade English for 13 years, 5 of those I also taught history/social studies. More recently, I am a 5th grade teacher of English (ELA) and math. I have also taught and tutored math up to 8th/9th grade/Algebra I.
I am also a former athletic coach, so I enjoy sports! And the brain needs to be trained for school, just like your muscles need to be trained in practice and for games.
Please let me know if I can help you in any way! I look forward to working with you.
On a personal note, I have a 5 year old black rescue dog named Millie. She is often the subject of my sentences for English or word problems in math. :)
