My specialty is working with students who struggle in school and who have difficulty learning math in a conventional classroom setting using traditional teaching practices. I especially like working with students who struggle in math because I enjoy watching them succeed when they find out how much sense math really makes! Everyone can have success in math!
Most recently I was a fellow for 5 years working on a special initiative in BCPS tier III schools. The objective of this program was to use different learning techniques, including many hands-on approaches, to teach disadvantaged middle and high school students who were deficient in math. In a 1:4 teacher to student ration, our goal was to close the achievement gap between these students and the students who were on or above grade level. The experimental program was defunded in 2018 with the resignation of School Superintendent Dr. Dallas Dance, but was hugely successful for those students who had the opportunity to be part of the program.
