I am a 15 year veteran, bilingual (in Spanish) Teacher/Tutor who is dedicated to helping students regardless of their age or ability. I have provided services for students (grades Pre K- 12 and Adults, as a College Instructor) with a variety of disabilities and those that need extra help, achieve both academic and social success, within all areas of their lives.
My education, background and experience are in the areas of Speech/language Pathology, Special Education in all academic areas, English as a Second Language (levels 1-4), Spanish, Study skills, and Social Skills. I have provided tutoring services such as, academic enrichment in ELA, Reading, Mathematics, Science, History, Life Skills, Study Prep Skills, Social/pragmatic Skills, Spanish and MTEL Prep.
My energy, organizational tools, and compassion in helping students make progress, drives me to continue to persue my career and further very own education in Teaching, as I am nearly completing my Master's degree and taking on-going professional development, as I consider myself a life long learner.
I use a multi-modal approach to assess the learning style of each student, as we are all unique learners. By using this method, the students will learn by way of visuals and technology, therefore seeing information, by use of hands on materials and projects, by hearing, reading, writing, and saying (pronouncing) and repeating information. This will target every learning style so progress is guaranteed!
I also use a variety of strategies, tools, accommodations and techniques to enhance, not only learning of information, but, retaining it, as well.
In addition, I consistently collect on-going data, tracking and monitoring student progress, to see important changes and growth. I use a variety of assessment tools to gather this knowledge in order to adapt my teacching style to better suit the students specified needs.
Most importantly, as I begin, I form a trusting and friendly rapport with each student so they will feel both comfortable and confident to work with me. We begin by addressing "getting to know you interviews" and play a series of ice breakers. Furthermore, I consistently provide parents with an update on progress measurement each time I work with a student, always keeping lines of communication open and as the parent plays an important role in their child's learning, I provide materials for home, that will provide the additional practice of concepts they learn in a given session. I am always lookking for feedback about my students, so I will usually start out with a parent questionnaire, so I can gather information and more so, exactly what their needs are.
I believe that learning can be fun and when students can learn strategies that help them learn effectively, they can use them independently!
I am a friendly Teacher & Tutor who has attended 5 Universities, including studying Abroad in Spain to become fluent in Spanish, is empathetic to ESL new comers, and has the experience of working with all grade levels with a wide range of needs and abilities. If you are looking for a highly qualified Teacher/Tutor, willing to dedicate a unique skill-set to increase success in your child's life, allow me to work with them, so you will see their progress and they can develop a new learning style that awards them with a life time of achievements that they deserve. You will not regret it!
Additionally, I have taken 18 years of Dance classes a Charlotte Klein's in Tap, Jazz, Ballett, Point, Hip hop, Lyrical and Contemporary. As the captain of the cheerleading squad at St. Peter Marion, my senior year, I won All- American Cheerleader/Dancer and performed in the Half-time show of the Pro-Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii. I represented our state as Miss Massachusetts. Should anyone need practice sessions for the areas of Dance or Cheering, It would be a pleasure!
