Hello! I am a licensed public school teacher with four years of experience as a special educator at the elementary level. I have experience working with students 1:1, small group, and inclusion settings delivering decoding, comprehension, writing, and math instruction. I am passionate about using specialized instruction to unlock a child's potential for success and enthusiasm for learning. Tutoring presents a wonderful opportunity for me to craft lessons truly individualized to meet students interests, strengths, and areas of need.
I am in the final steps of becoming an Associate Level Orton-Gillingham practitioner. The Orton-Gillingham Approach is a systematic, explicit, multisensory and diagnostic/prescriptive approach to the teaching of literacy skills including decoding and spelling. I have completed 60 hours of coursework and a practicum that included 100 hours of 1:1 tutoring, 10 of which were formally observed by a Fellow of the O-G Academy. I currently apply my knowledge of the OG approach to plan and deliver 1:1 and small group instruction.
My practice is informed by specialized instruction including NanciBell Visualizing and Verbalizing, Project Read: Written Expression, the Landmark School's Teaching Mathematics Through Different Modalities, and Sarah Ward/Cognitive Connection's Executive Functioning .
Please feel free to contact me for tutoring.
