I have extensive experience with helping students feel confident and capable. I am currently employed as a Title I Reading/Math Interventionist at the elementary level. In addition to the many school students I have guided through their struggles, I have also been employed privately for multiple clients for the past four years.
I truly believe that everyone benefits from conquering the basics, using them as the foundation they were intended to be, and then layering on more complex learning objectives. As an educator and a parent, I know firsthand how easily a child can get discouraged, due to frustration as they learn. The basics sometimes get glossed over, as school districts are under increasing pressure to pile on test after test, and to show progress through data. This approach has its place, of course, in the accountability and quality areas, but the collateral damage is often the mid and marginal learners, or those who have missed something along the way.
Imagine trying to work a jigsaw puzzle, but people keep hurrying you and telling you different techniques, but there are some main pieces missing...no amount of academic programming can help in a situation where the “pieces” have not been laid out on the table. That is what I attempt to do in my tutoring. I’d call it part motivational coach/part education application. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss the needs you are facing as your child continues their educational journey.
