About Alicia

Greetings Parents/Guardians,

I would like to start off by introducing myself. My name is Alicia and I am a certified Type 03 elementary teacher. I received my Bachelor's degree in 2011 from the University of Illinois at Urbana. I decided to become an educator because I enjoy helping children learn things they never thought they could and instilling the confidence in them that they need to prosper. I am confident that I would be the ideal tutor for your child and I will do my best to provide evidence to that effect.

My strengths are differentiating my instruction to meet the diverse needs of my students and implementing instructional practices that challenge and provoke students’ thinking. The variety of my classroom experiences include tutoring, participating, and teaching students from various backgrounds. I have tutored throughout my college years in grades K-6 through a program called America Reads/America Counts, which validated my decision to become an educator. Through this experience I learned that tutoring requires you to be conscience of the child's misconception in the material and from there plan instruction to meet their needs.

I am also a Golden Apple Scholar which has given me opportunities to tutor and teach in kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade over summers. Teaching my 6th-8th graders proved to be a challenge because many could only read, write, and solve math problems at the early elementary level, but resulted in great success for them. I have taught K-2 within the Chicago Public School system for 6 years. Currently I teach first grade. I have been tutoring for 6 years across many grades. All of my current clients have been working with me for 2 years or more. I have a solid command on interventions for struggling students, mandated standardized tests and I know the skills your child needs to become a fluent reader, writer, thinker, and problem solver.

I have a plethora of teaching materials, especially leveled books, to get your child reading on-level and surpassing their peers. I love teaching children and I hope you will give me the opportunity to instill the confidence I have into them, so that they can become lifelong learners. Given the opportunity, I would love to answer any questions, comments, or concerns you have. Feel free to contact me anytime!

I look forward to working with your child soon!
