I have a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Language and Literature from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and am certified by the State of Texas to teach general education and ESL for grades Early Childhood through 6th Grade. I have experience teaching in a classroom setting as well as in a one-on-one and small group setting at a private tutoring center. I am additionally a current returning adult student pursuing a higher-level science degree with successful completion of university-level science classes and higher-level math courses.
I believe my experiences on "both sides" (as both a teacher and tutor and as a recent student) give me the unique advantage of not only having a background in teaching, but also being able to view problems and new concepts from the point of view of a learning student. My philosophy of teaching is to decrease anxiety in approaching new topics and to help students understand the foundational concepts behind rules so that they don't have to rely as much on rote memorization. I know the pressures of being a student of any age, so my goal is that by working with my students, school can actually be an enjoyable learning experience. I look forward to teaming up with you!
