Hey! My name is Jayvon Nougaisse, and I am a rising medical student at the Medical College of Georgia who was a part of the Augusta University 7-year BS/MD program. If there's anything you get from this bio, it's this: I love listening to others and helping them learn. My philosophy is that learning shouldn't be a boring, passive process where you stick your head in books all day. While it does require hard work, I believe that learning should be active, engaging, fun, and most of all, personalized. Tutoring is not going to be me talking at you, it'll be a conversation where both the tutor and the student participate to reach a deeper understanding of the material. People can learn the same material in different ways, so I see it as my job to be able to present the information in multiple ways to solidify memory and retention.
I have a large amount of informal tutoring experience through explaining to my friends concepts from subjects ranging from chemistry to statistics. I am also a very well-versed test-taker. I scored in the 99th percentile for both the SAT and the MCAT; for both, it was my first time taking the exam. Additionally, I obtained a perfect score on the SAT Chemistry Subject test. Being knowledgeable is only half the battle; I am also a very excellent communicator. I have given many informational presentations on scientific concepts and was even awarded "Best Overall Presentation" at Augusta University's 2021 Phi Kappa Phi Research Conference.
In addition to helping with the actual content, I also want to give students the ability to effectively learn and study beyond a specific exam or class. There is so much information out there about time management, habits, note-taking strategies, and study skills, and my goal is that by the end of my time tutoring someone, you will be able to take something away from the experience that will help you for years to come.
