Hello! My name is Doris and I have a PhD in Art History. In college I studied Latin American Studies and Spanish. I graduated magna cum laude from college and also received honors for my dissertation. In graduate school I was a teaching assistant for several courses on Latin American art. In between undergrad and grad school I spent two years teaching English in Chile, where I earned my TEFL certification. In high school I was the go-to tutor for geometry.
I have tutored throughout my life--mostly because I'm very excited and passionate about the subjects I'm interested in and really enjoy sharing this with people. Since each student has a unique set of needs I like to first establish the deadline (exam, presentation, project, etc.) and work our way back to design a tutoring plan. My approach to tutoring is conversational and visual, and I am known for my pop culture references.
I have tutored one-on-one as well as groups of up to 4 people. In graduate school I was the teaching assistant for courses with 30-50 students.
This has always been one of my favorite subjects. I excelled in high school geometry as well as on the GRE.
I obtained a TEFL certification in 2005 and taught English in Chile for two years.
I was born in Chile and, growing up in South Florida, have always spoken Spanish in my daily life. One of my majors in college was Spanish. I studied in Spain during my third year of college and lived in Chile for a total of 4 years on two occasions.
I have a PhD in art history and for my dissertation I studied an architecture school in Chile. Art history and architecture are two of my great passions and I love discussing them.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I'd love to hear about your needs and see how we can work together!
