After a couple of years as a Substitute Elementary School Teacher, I chose to become a Paraprofessional. As a Para, I am able to help students in the classroom on a one-to-one basis. Individualized attention is given to help them learn. This is how tutoring works. Too many students lack help with schoolwork outside the classroom. This fact prompted me to look at tutoring.
Most recently, as a Para, I've been working with Special Needs students. I use creative techniques to help them learn, when appropriate. It takes patience and flexibility to be successful in teaching these students. Special Needs students have become my favorite type of student to work with but it is satisfying to help any student "get it".
