I’m Peter! I graduated from The College of the Holy Cross in 2014 with a Bachelor’s in Math. I absolutely love math and helping others to enjoy it also! I try to impart my enthusiasm on my students so that math isn’t so intimidating for them, but rather a fun challenge. I also try to not make the lessons so serious and incorporate some humanity and humor, rather than just be an authority figure and robot.
I usually introduce a lesson with some instruction and why it’s a useful skill to have. Generally, I’ll go over an example or two and then have the student work some out on his or her own, giving one example that goes a bit beyond the “together” examples. This way it gets the student thinking on his or her own and solving the problem his/herself, boosting confidence. I’ve found that boosting confidence in math has been the number one contributor to better understanding it, so I try to get students to feel better about math.
I’ve taught at a few high schools in DC as well as private tutoring for clients. It has been such a rewarding experience helping students learn and seeing their smiles when math suddenly clicks and makes sense.
I also just recently graduated from the George Washington University with a Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering degree, so I've gone in depth in applied math as well, learning how to utilize abstract math concepts in real world situations and problems. I'm excited to use examples that I've studied to show that math can be fun and interesting!
I’m so excited to help make math more enjoyable and less intimidating for you, and I hope through my tutoring you can learn to have fun while doing it. Looking forward to hearing from you!
