I am an energetic, patient, and enthusiastic woman who is passionate about both learning and teaching. In second grade, my teacher noted on my report card that: "the other students in the class listen to Rebecca read aloud in a way that they only do with their other teachers; particularly when she reads her own work." Ever since then, I naturally fell into the role of tutor to my academic peers. Throughout my entire academic career, my peers have always come to me for questions, be it math instruction, guidance in editing and revising a paper, or leading study groups. I also excelled in every standardized test I took, and my transcripts speak for themselves.
As I began my graduate work, I was chosen from a very competitive group of applicants to be the graduate assistant for the Holman Success Center, Eastern Michigan University's tutoring program. When I moved to Los Angeles I was hired as a substitute teacher at an E.S.L. school, LASC, and regularly am hired on for days and weeks at a time. This past semester I taught for 6 weeks. In graduate school I also chose to pursue extensive course work in "Drama and Theatre for the Young." I believe this gives me a unique perspective on making education exciting and fun!
To this day, my friends regularly send me documents for editing and revision. Friends with legal, teaching, social services, and various other careers. My career, and indeed life goal, is to complete a PhD. program in Dramatic Literature with a focus on research and teaching. I love the look on ones face when they understand a problem that previously puzzled them, or when they find joy in a subject that they previously detested. For these reasons, and more, I am uniquely and well qualified to tutor. More importantly, I am excited about tutoring!
