I am an English educator with 14 years of teaching experience at the middle school, high school, and college levels. I hold an MFA in Creative Writing (nonfiction) from Ohio State and a BA in English from St. Lawrence University (where I also completed a major in psychology).
I take a collaborative approach to teaching and tutoring. A good lesson is a guided conversation; as the teacher, I lead the way, but I take my cues from my students' thoughts, observations, and questions. I work with English students of all skill levels; if a topic falls under the umbrella of English Language Arts, chances are I’ve taught it. If you want to improve your reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, I want to help you achieve your goals.
I also believe in the value of making learning fun. My students should enjoy the learning process as much as I enjoy teaching. Experience has taught me that students are the most successful when they not only enjoy the subject, but also the process of learning about that subject. When students associate learning with fun, they look forward to their lessons, and they are more likely to retain the information being taught. Therefore, I strive to bring friendliness and good humor to every lesson.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you improve your English skills!
