About Rachel Giron

As a tutor, I have worked with students from K through 6th Grade, as well as college-level students across Contra Costa County, teaching a variety of ELA, Math Curriculum (namely AfterSchool KidzLit and Finish Line under Education Futures Corp) and a variety of study and time management skills. (Feel free to view my qualifications on this page.) Aside from my tutoring experience across students of different grade levels, subject matter and academic needs, I am a full-time teacher of five years (and counting) for students with moderate/severe needs that range from Kindergarten to 5th Grade under WCCUSD and Amador County Office of Education. As a mentor educator used to tell me, "If you can teach here, you can teach anywhere!". And her words have truth in them.

My teaching career goes back to my motherland - the Philippines, where I began as a student in the top premiere University (UP Diliman), under renowned Professors in the College of Education. When I moved to the United States, I went on to continue my program and received my BA in Liberal Studies from the University of the Pacific. This makes me a proud Pacific Tigers alumna, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the award for being the Outstanding Special Education Moderate/Severe Disabilities Credential Graduate in my batch. Later on, upon my first full-time employment, I enrolled in Teachers College of San Joaquin to receive my Clear (Level II) Moderate/Severe and Mild/Moderate Education Specialist Instruction Credential.

I know how it is to see someone struggle with a certain task at hand. Trust me! My students experience this first-hand. If I can teach the most severe population, I sure can help you out!

Being a fully credentialed California teacher (Education Specialist Instruction credential), I employ Common Core State Standards-supported curriculum and methodologies in ELA and Math. These programs include California Treasures, Triumphs, Basics 3 framework, English Language Development (ELD), AfterSchool KidzLit and Finish Line. My specializations include being 'Highly Qualified' in Multiple Subject Areas, Common Core State Standards-based curriculum, CBEST review (Reading, Writing, Math), CSET review (Subtests I, II and III), as well as the RICA. I also hold authorizations to teach English Language Learners under the California ELD Standards.

My primary experience revolves around both the Elementary (K-6) population, as well as college students in need of study skill effectiveness! I understand the state standards and expectations of this vast age group. I immerse in district-wide professional development with the goal of planning and perfecting my educational practice.

I handle and manage a wide variety of Special Needs cases. This includes students with Autism, Intellectual Disability, Emotional Disturbance, Orthopedic Impairment and other multiple learning disabilities (Response to Intervention), all with which I use a variety of district-supported curriculum. I differentiate my instruction using Evidence-Based Practices according to the individual needs of my students.

My teaching pace will be based on your own learning needs. My goal on every tutoring session is to (1) immediately target areas of difficulty, (2) provide effective study methods, and finally (3) provide a follow-up list of topics to focus on within your individual study time. I document each session with a time log, topics covered, assessments given and scores received - all in an effort to visualize a fruitful tutoring series.

My availability is from Monday to Friday (3:15-8:30pm), and Saturday (9:00-6:00pm). Although, these hours are still flexible and may still be adjusted. I am able to travel within my local area and meet in quiet public places such as libraries and coffee shops. Online lessons are available as well. My current rate is $50/hour for in-person tutoring. Feel free to contact me for any inquiries.
